Re-Member: Out of the Saltshaker

As we start looking towards our Passion for Life Mission in 2010 for many of us it is with renewed motivation for sharing our faith built up by last weekend’s ‘Out of the Saltshaker’ training with Rebecca Manley-Pippert.

Some of the key lessons we learnt were:
1) It’s OK to be Human – God is God and we are not!  It is He who loves us, sent Jesus as a model of  incarnational witness and invites people to know him.  We need to remember our weakness as it is only then that we discover the power of relying on God’s strength, which changes lives. It is not our great answers to questions or other attempts we make to draw people to him that does so!

2) It’s all about Relationships – Jesus showed us that the Kingdom of God is about relationships of love, not simply religious activity.  We need to remember this as we reach out to others and base it on a true desire to love them.  Rebecca showed us that asking questions to draw out people’s understanding and get them thinking about spiritual issues is a key tool to have in our toolbox.

3) It’s the best news there is! – Finally she reminded us that the proclamation of the gospel is the very heart of evangelism.  Key to this is considering how to adapt or illustrate biblical truth to our specific audience.  We can help ourselves here by practicing sharing a basic outline of the gospel so we are ready to do so at an appropriate moment, and also be willing to share our own personal story.
