Re-View: Advent

ADVENT calls us to look up in faith, and to look forward in hope, to the coming King.

Christianity is all about a direction of travel. It asks the question:“where are we heading in the future?” And, unlike some worldviews, the destination is more important than the journey. For disciples of Jesus, it is better to arrive than just to travel hopefully.

But it’s also about waiting in the present with hope. Yet our hope is not of the “I hope it might snow” or “I hope the train is on time” variety, but of the ‘God has promised’ type. And when God says something, it’s a guarantee we can put our house on.

The season of advent brings together those two great realities- faith and hope. Waiting with expectant faith for the One who will come at the end of time to Judge the world in righteousness and it’s peoples with His truth.

So as we begin this Sunday with the lighting of the first advent candle, we celebrate that in Christ, the light has come into the world and the darkness will never put it out!

Do use this season to invite friends, neighbours and colleagues to at least one of our Christmas events.
