Re-View: Mission in Wales
Today we are interviewing Rowland Hughes
On the 1st of January 2010, I had been the Friends International Staff Worker for Cardiff for
exactly 6 years. In those 6 years here at Highfields we’ve met over 500 international students
from over 70 countries, with 150 international students having attended an evangelistic
Bible Study – and many of these on a regular basis. The vision for international student work
in Wales is to continue to grow the work here at Highfields, as well as helping to develop
international student work in Cardiff and throughout Wales.
Last Saturday, Feb 6th, I was able to hold a Friends International Supporters Evening.
It was a lovely opportunity to thank all my supporters over the years and also introduce the
new and exciting possibilities of working with international students throughout Wales.
As well as various presentations, interviews and testimonies, David Pepper (National Director
of Friends International) gave a presentation on the exciting work of FI, as well as
explaining its commitment to developing international student ministry within Wales.
The Vision for Wales is that each of the 10,000 international students in Wales should have
a Christian friend and, through that genuine friendship, be able to hear and respond to the
Gospel. Over the coming months, FI in Wales would like to start making this vision a reality.
We don’t do anything in our own strength – and we are dependent on God for his leading
and provision – but these are the ways we would like to proceed:
Build links with Christian organisations
Grow existing international student work
Develop new international student ministries
Network international student ministries across Wales
Thank you so much for your continued support over the years. I’d very much value your
prayers as we together help develop international student work not just here at Highfields,
but throughout Wales.
