Re-View: Rev. Peter Baker

"It's good to be back!" After being away with Sian and Emma for most of August, and then enjoying some study leave in Oxford, I'm on deck and ready to sail into a new term.

Personally I am very much looking forward to the Sunday morning teaching series 'Reclaiming Church' as we explore what it means to love Church the way Jesus does.  As far as the wider programme is concerned you will need to keep an eye on Headlines, the Church Website and your email inbox, to make sure you miss nothing of significance. There are the usual Autumn events; among them a new Christianity Explored course starts soon.  Maybe you can invite someone to it or go along yourself?

Our special Sunday guest speakers this term include Joseph D'Souza who works with OM among and on behalf of the some of the poorest people of the world, Dr Peter Williams who is going to help us explain our faith to the post-modern world and Henry Olonga, the celebrated Zimbabwean Test Cricketer whose stand against Mugabeís regime made international headlines.

Harvest and Christmas are the book ends of the term calendar, and being September we will soon be saying goodbye to our home grown students and hello to the students of UC and UWIC.

So here are three questions I want you to answer as we start a new session:

  • Who am I going to be praying for and inviting to some event at Highfields this term?
  • Do I belong to a Small Group within Highfields where I can get to know people better?
  • What do I want to see God do in my life right now?

And remember the Church Motto text: Jesus says "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full!"  Let's enjoy being a participator in that overflowing life of God, and not a mere spectator.
